YOUR DONATION MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE

Determination alone is not enough to escape poverty in Vietnam.

In Vietnam, the best way to escape the cycle of poverty is through education, but it costs about C$4,500 a year to attend university while many poor families earn less than $100 a month, and part time jobs pay only 50 cents to $1.50 an hour.

Most families cannot afford to send their children to post secondary school, and even a determined student working 40 hours a week at a part time job cannot earn enough to cover tuition.

Despite these extreme hardships, many of our scholarship recipients achieve excellent academic results, earning mostly A and B grades.

Your donation can mean the difference between helping someone obtain a professional job—with a stable income that lifts themselves and their families out of poverty—or leaving them trapped in a life of scraping by on $100 a month or less.

In some cases, your donation may even shift the mindset of an entire community, where families often sacrifice long term opportunity for the immediate need to have their children start earning income as soon as they are able to work.

Below is a list of typical annual expenses and wage for a university student in Vietnam:

Tuition:       Varies considerable depending on the university and faculty. Our scholarship recipients pay between C$1500 to C$2300 (Minority students studying pedagogy are exempted – Orphans receive a partial rebate).

Dormitory: C$300 to C$600

Food:          C$1,500

Minimum wage: $0.50 – $1.5 an hour
